We do not store images long-term after processing unless explicitly stated for a feature like "My Fridge" inventory, with your consent. Text-based ingredient lists associated with generated recipes may be stored if those recipes are saved to our community cookbook.
  • Recipe Generation Data: For logged-in users, we track the number of daily recipe generations to manage usage limits.

2. Use of Information

We may use the information we collect for various purposes, including to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our website and services (Fridge Chef recipe generation).
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our website and services.
  • Understand and analyze how you use our website to enhance user experience.
  • Develop new products, services, features, and functionality.
  • Communicate with you, including for customer service, updates, and (with your consent) marketing purposes like newsletters.
  • Process your requests, provide recipe suggestions, and manage daily usage limits.
  • Store user accounts and associate generated recipes with users in our community cookbook.

We take reasonable precautions to protect your information. We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures. User authentication is handled via Firebase Authentication (Google Sign-In). Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS. However, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies (via Firebase Authentication) to manage user sessions. We also use browser local storage to track anonymous user recipe generation counts before login is required.

5. Third-Party Services

Our website may link to external sites that are not operated by us. Please be aware that we have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies.

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google AI (via Genkit): For processing ingredient data (text and images) and generating recipe suggestions. Their use of information is governed by Google's privacy policies.
  • Firebase (Google Cloud): For user authentication (Google Sign-In) and database storage (Firestore) of user accounts, recipe data, and newsletter subscriptions. Firebase's use of data is governed by Google's privacy policies.
  • Picsum Photos: For placeholder images. Their privacy policy applies to their service.

6. Data Retention

We only retain collected information for as long as necessary to provide you with your requested service. What data we store, we’ll protect within commercially acceptable means to prevent loss and theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

User account information and saved recipes are retained as long as the user maintains an account with Fridge Chef. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until the user unsubscribes.

7. Your Rights

You are free to refuse our request for your personal information, with the understanding that we may be unable to provide you with some of your desired services (e.g., unlimited recipe generations, saving recipes to a personal cookbook).

If you have an account with us, you may request details of the personal information we hold about you. You may also request that we delete your personal data, subject to any legal obligations to retain it.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
